700 Year Old Mummy Found In China

Share

Last month, road workers in the midst of constructing a road in the city of Taizhou in China’s Jiangsu province, discovered a wooden tomb some six feet below the surface.

Inside, lay the corpse of what was once without question a woman of high and perhaps even noble rank from the Ming Dynasty, the ruling power in China between 1368 and 1644.

Perhaps even more remarkable than the discovery itself was the fact that the woman’s features including her hair, skin and eyelashes as well as her clothing even down to her shoes, were extremely well preserved and gave the appearance of someone who had recently died.

Soon after the discovery, Chinese archaeologists from the nearby Museum of Taizhou were called in to handle the excavation of this most unusual artifact as well as two smaller tombs found nearby, and decipher the many secrets therein about life as it was back then.

Clothed in silk and cotton, and wearing a most valuable ring on one finger, this mummy is the first of its kind to be discovered in this area of China.
