Bags Of Cobras Cause Panic on Vietnamese Train

Share
Railway officials have discovered snakes on a train in Vietnam — highly venomous king cobras in bags under a seat.

Railroad official Pham Quynh says passengers were terrified when four cloth bags containing the writhing cobras were spotted Friday. The snakes were alive but had their mouths stitched shut.

Quynh says the exact number of snakes was unclear but the bags weighed 100 pounds (45 kilograms).

Security staff removed the cobras, which were likely destined for restaurants in Hanoi. Their owner apparently escaped in the chaos.

Snake meat is considered a delicacy in Vietnam, but cobras are protected by law.

Quynh says the cobras were given to forest rangers who released them into the wild Saturday after no one claimed them.

A father allegedly beheaded his 20-year-old daughter at Sandokan village in Nagaur district near Jaipur, India on Wednesday.

The family members of the accused Premaram, 45 woke up at 2 am to the shock of their life. They saw the father holding a blood-stained sword and the beheaded daughter Sangeeta, 20 lying in a pool of blood on a "charpoy".

As per the FIR filed by family members, Premaram came onto the verandah of his house where his wife Shanti Devi, 39 and Sangeeta were sleeping on a "charpoy". He hit the girl's neck with a sharp-edged sword.

Immediately his wife, and others in the family who were sleeping there, woke up but Premaram fled, police said. "The girl had an affair with a boy of nearby village and the father was quite upset with it. May be this could be the reason behind this extreme step," a police officer said.

A road sweeper has become a local celebrity in China for her habit of using her broom as an exercise prop to keep in shape.

Zhang Xiufang, from Beijing, said: "I got this job when my husband became very ill and was unable to work. Our daughter is in primary school and we needed to pay our bills.

"Before I got the job I used to do Taichi both using my body and with a sword, and I missed them because with this Jon I start at 5am and finish at 4pm, but then one day I was swinging the broom and it reminded me of my old hobby - and then I started practicing again at work."

The martial arts broom master was spotted by a local man in Beijing's Chaoyang district who made a short video with his phone and uploaded it onto YouTube.

The video was such a hit that Zhang was invited to the capital top star in a TV programme in Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu province.

She said: "I have even been asked by other street sweepers to show them some tricks - it's a great way to relax and stay fit in what is a very demanding job so why not?"

World's Shortest Man Crowned by Guinness on 18th Birthday

Filipino Junrey Balawing, who is the size of a 1-year-old toddler, has been officially crowned the smallest man in the world by Guinness World Records on his 18th birthday.

Junrey takes over the title from previous record holder, Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal, who stands at 67 centimetres. Junrey stopped growing before he turned 2-years old.

He suffers from a series of medical conditions, has a child's demeanour and can only walk with some help, finding it too painful to stand for long periods of time because of his weak knees.

Junrey was crowned in his hometown of Sindangan in the southern Philippines, with his parents present and approximately 100 villagers and officials showering the coastal town's newly famous resident with a feast, cake, balloons and cash gifts.

Junrey's mother Concepcion grew teary-eyed during the ceremony. His father Reynaldo said they were happy about their son being named the smallest living man. Their other son and two daughters are all of an average size.

'Thank you,' Junrey told the crowd in a local dialect which was translated by his father.

Junrey blew out the candles on the cake and clapped heartily each time the crowd applauded. He was later heard saying 'Kapoy', or 'I'm tired'.

Guinness World Records representative Craig Glenday said he was struck by Junrey's lively personality and constant smile. He said: 'Although he's short, he takes that in stride. He has this cheeky smile.'

Aside from a Guinness certificate, the crown does not come with any cash award.

Mr Glenday said he hopes the international fame will bring in gifts and donations, particularly medical supplies to ensure Balawing's health.

His family said they tried to send Balawing to school but it withdrew him after he distracted other children's attention.

Local officials got the idea of informing the Guinness records committee about Balawing from journalists who learned about his size.

World's Scariest Tree founded in Suffolk

The spooky looking beech tree can be found in the grounds of a nursing home in Stowlangtoft, Suffolk. This tree could be the root of all evil with its fearsome eyes, wide-open mouth and twisted set of teeth.

Many think the 70ft monstrosity is reminiscent of the Whomping Willow which lies in the grounds of Harry Potter's Hogwarts School. But David Garnham, who spotted the unsightly work of nature, thinks it looks more like Edvard Munch's Scream painting.

He told the Mail Online: 'It really does show nature's true beauty and also says a lot about what the imagination can conjure up.

'It's a bit like an enchanted forest... I can't imagine too many people wanting to go climbing up that tree. 'I've called the photo 'Nture's Scream' because I think it does have an uncanny resemblance to Edvard Munch's classic work.'

Stowlangtoft Hall was originally built for the Maitland Wilson family before it became a nursing home in 1969.
