Share

The grand opening of the Shanghai Culture Plaza Theater in coming July 2011, may or may not be attended by those busy people compiling world records at Guinness, but the Cultural Plaza Theater will nevertheless, have the distinction of being the world’s largest and deepest underground theater with the highest seating capacity of 2010.

The theater will occupy an area of 650,000 square meters, including 570,000 of which are underground. Shanghai remains China’s most populous city, with over 20 million inhabitants, which makes it one of the world’s largest cities in terms of population.

The Shanghai underground Cultural Plaza Theater has been under construction for the last four years and together with the Shanghai Grand Theatre and Shanghai Concert Hall, the Plaza will become one of the top three performance venues in Shanghai.

The first performance at the Shanghai Underground Theater has already been planned. It will be a vocal concert featuring a large collection of musical plays. It is expected that over time, the underground theater will become the main location of foreign original musical plays and unique musical plays of national origin.
