Wind Blows Metal Shack onto Man

Share

A man in Turkey is lucky to be alive after a powerful gust of wind rolled a metal shack over him on Thursday, April 14.

The unidentified man was walking along a pavement past the galvanised shed in the south-western town of Bursa, when the structure became detached from the ground and was blown towards him.

The metal shack, which weighed around 1-tonne, knocked the man over, before hitting power cables and smashing into a moving van.

Emergency services closed the road for several hours to remove the wreckage. The injured man was taken to hospital. The extent of his injuries has not been reported.

Japan's "Cat Island" Survived from Tsunami-Quake

Share

The tragic earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan on March 11 displaced thousands of people, destroyed countless families, and left a bitter nuclear disaster that still plagues the people of Japan. Thankfully, one thing they weren’t able to do is wipe out Tashirojima, better known as ‘Cat Island.’

Situated in Ishinomaki City, Japan, Cat Island is essentially an island in an island that houses about 100 elderly people, many of whom believe that filling a cat’s tummy can and will bring great wealth and good luck. As such, Cat Island is teeming with tens and thousands of stray cats.

Anyway, it appears that feeding all the cats has paid off for the inhabitants, because not a single one of them was hurt or killed during the earthquake and tsunami. As for the cats, though one or two may have been killed (there is no confirmation either way), reports say that the island is still brimming with kitty cats galore.

Unfortunately, there is one problem. Inhabits of the island, both human and feline, are extremely short on food.

Myanmar Hit by 6.8-magnitude Earthquake

Share
The northeastern part of Myanmar was hit with a magnitude 6.8 earthquake Thursday night. At least 75 people were killed in this strong earthquake.

The quake was felt in Bangkok, 480 miles to the south of the epicenter, where buildings reportedly swayed.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was six miles deep and that it is possible that 600,000 people could feel shaking anywhere from strong to violent and that damage could be widespread.

Below are some exclusive photos related to this disaster:

Effect of Nuclear Reactor Blast in Japan

Share

Earthquakes accompanied by tsunamis that occurred in Japan raises the potential for new hazards. Therefore, some nuclear power plants (NPP) in Japan were damaged. The threat of radioactive contamination hazards to surface eventually. Is a kind of radioactive substance that is on the surface or in a solid, liquid or gas which is harmful to human body presence. Radioactive comes from radionuclides (radioisotopes), an unstable nucleus due to excessive energy.

According atomicarchive.com site, there are at least seven harmful effects human body when exposed to radioactive leaks from nuclear power plants:-

1. Hair: Hair will disappear quickly when exposed to radiation at 200 Rems or more. (Rems is a unit of radioactive strength.)
2. Brain: brain cells will not be damaged directly unless exposed to radiation measuring Rems 5000 or more. Like the heart, radiation kills nerve cells and blood vessels and can cause seizures and sudden death.
3. Mumps glands: the thyroid gland is very susceptible to radioactive iodine. In certain amount, radioactive iodine can destroy part or all of the thyroid.
4. Circulatory system: when a person is exposed to radiation of about 100 Rems, blood lymphocyte count would be reduced, so that victims are more susceptible to infection. The initial symptoms are flu-like illness. According to the data when Nagasaki and Hiroshima explosions, showed symptoms can last for 10 years and may have long-term risks such as leukemia and lymphoma.
5. Heart: when exposed to radiation measuring Rems 1000 to 5000 will result in direct damage to blood vessels and can lead to heart failure and sudden death.
6. Gastrointestinal: radiation with a strength of 200 Rems will cause damage to the lining of the intestinal tract and can cause nausea, vomiting and bloody diarrhea.
7. Channels Reproduction: the reproductive tract will damage the reproductive tract with enough power under 200 Rems. In the long term, radiation victims will experience infertility.

Huge Tsunami Slams Japan

Share
A massive 8.9 earthquake has struck Japan northeast coast.

The biggest earthquake to hit Japan since records began 140 years ago struck the northeast coast on Friday, triggering a 10-meter tsunami that swept away everything in its path, including houses, ships, cars and farm buildings on fire.

The Red Cross in Geneva said the wall of water was higher than some Pacific islands and a tsunami warning was issued for the whole of the Pacific basin, except for the United States and Canada, but Hawaii ordered the evacuation of coastal areas.

At least 22 people were killed in the quake and tsunami, Kyodo news agency said, and the extent of the destruction, and the forecast for the tsunami, suggested the death toll could rise significantly.

The 8.9 magnitude quake caused many injuries, sparked fires and the wall of water, prompting warnings to people to move to higher ground in coastal areas.
